Size4mail LIte v2

Modern digital camera images can be very big, 4 or 5 MB and even bigger. Sending files this big by email can take a long time to send, may overload a recipient's mail box and will take ages to download.

More often than not, images could be reduced in size without loosing effect and so make emailing more efficient.

Reducing the size of an image is not difficult to do and there are many applications that can be used.

However Size4Mail takes the process to it's most efficient by providing a SendTo link in the Context Menu where selected images for emailing can be resized and sent to your Email Client ready to send to a recipient. There are several standard sizes, the option to choose a non-standard size, to choose to resize as a percentage of the original or to not resize. It is also possible to resize without sending the images to the email client so that images can be consolidated and sent later.

Installing and using Size4Mail

Size4Mail is a single file application. Extract s4m_lite.exe to a new folder of your choice. When you run the EXE file you will see the button 'ADD SendTo Link'. Clicking this will create an entry in the SendTo section of the Context Menu (right click menu) titled 'Siz4mail'. Clicking the button a second time will delete the SendTo Link.

Size4Mail creates an INI file to hold options, in the same folder as the EXE file. Selected options are saved on closing. Resized image files are copied to a sub-folder selected using 'Set folder'. The folder can be reviewed by clicking on 'Open folder'.

To use Size4Mail, select JPEG image files in Explorer and open the Context Menu. Note that individual files must be selected and not folders. Select Sendto/Size4Mail which will open the application. Select the max size required and whether to sharpen resized images or add a frame. Sharpening is not normally required except for very small images.

When Size4Mail is open, JPEG files can be dropped on it.

Update 2.1: Included options to resize only and to clear the file list. Improved activity information.

Update 2.2: Included option to resize to a percentage and not to resize. No resize saves the image at the same dimensions but a lower compression, reducing the file size.

Progress is shown by the bar at the top. Size4Mail uses separate threads for each image. Once all images have been resized, if Resize only is not selected, they will be sent to your Email Client and a new email opened. Though using threads speeds up the process, resampling a large image is quite resource hungry and a large number will take some time!

While threads have advantages, running too many concurrently can result in slowing the overall process! The number of threads that can be opened and run efficiently depends on the system. The maximum number of concurrent threads can be set in the box next to the progress bar. Try different settings until you find the optimum number for your system.

You can check for later versions using the Version: button.

NOTE: Size4Mail ONLY handles JPEG files and ONLY reduces image size. If the original image is smaller than the selected size, the original will be sent.

Uninstalling Size4Mail.

Delete the SendTo Link then the folder containing the EXE file and the images folder. There are no changes to the Registry.
